Cubs scrap plans for more
night games in 2004
December 16, 2003 The
Chicago Cubs say they are abandoning plans to add more night
games to the 2004 season. The Cubs are limited to 18 night
games a year.
A new ordinance would allow
a gradual increase to 30 night games, with 22 next season.
The Cubs' decision to scrap
the plans for additional night games next season came after
a City Council committee delayed action on the ordinance approving
the plan.
Committee members say they want
more guarantees that the team will live up to promises to
address traffic congestion and litter and put into place other
neighborhood protections.
Cubs President Andy MacPhail
says he's disappointed because he thought an agreement was
in place. But he says the team will continue to work on the
agreement so that night games can be added in 2005.
