Work ready to begin on new Wrigley bleachers

The sidewalks behind Wrigley Field on Waveland and Sheffield Avenues are filled with yellow spray-paint markings, instructing workers where to place poles that will hold up the new bleachers.

It's the first sign the ballpark will have a different look during the next Cubs homestand in April 2006. Construction on the 1,800 additional seats is scheduled to begin shortly after the last home game Wednesday.

Still to be determined is whether the Cubs will increase the number of season tickets for the new bleachers. The number of tickets has been capped at 75.

Cubs broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly will call Wednesday's game from the left-field bleachers. Radio analyst Ron Santo will be calling his final game of the season. Santo will miss the final road series to take part in a walk against juvenile diabetes.
